Toronto, ON (May 7, 2012) – Phil Plait is an astronomer on a mission: to challenge the myths of the universe with scientific proof. Premiering Monday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Science, PHIL PLAIT’S BAD UNIVERSE attempts to debunk the junk science and reveal the truth and likelihood of an asteroid fatally colliding with Earth. Host and alpha nerd, Plait, wants viewers to know that when dealing with the universe, ignorance can be deadly.

In this two-part special, Plait uncovers the real science behind the mysteries of Earth, the solar system, and the bad universe humans live in. Testing some seriously explosive measures – from setting up an explosive asteroid impact simulation and making a comet in the lab, to devising a suicide mission to determine how far away from an asteroid hit a person would need to be to survive it – Plait reveals the real consequences of an asteroid collision and a few ways humans could ultimately save Earth from impending doom.

About Phil Plait
