An Annual Holiday Tradition Returns: ESPN Classic Presents WORLD JUNIOR WEEKEND and WORLD JUNIOR MARATHON, Beginning December 17

Toronto, ON (December 15, 2011) – From triumph to heartbreaking defeat, ESPN Classic relives some of the greatest moments from the IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP with its annual WORLD JUNIOR WEEKEND on Dec. 17-18 and WORLD JUNIOR MARATHON on Dec. 24-25. In total, ESPN Classic brings fans more than 40 hours of vintage World Junior games showcasing some of Canada’s biggest stars.

WORLD JUNIOR WEEKEND features a Canada vs. Russia marathon beginning on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. ET with a memorable 1987 round-robin game that includes one of the most infamous bench-clearing brawls in international hockey history. Fans can also catch the 1991 gold medal game from TSN’s first World Junior broadcast as John Slaney scored the biggest goal of his career at 2 p.m. ET.

In addition, the WORLD JUNIOR MARATHON starting Saturday, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m. ET will feature all of Team Canada’s games from the 2011 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP including the gold medal game as Team Canada took a 3-0 lead into the third period before the Russians mounted an epic comeback. The game airs Sunday, Dec. 25 at 8 a.m. ET with an encore presentation in primetime at 6 p.m. ET.
