Toronto, ON (October 21, 2011) – From TV screens to glossy magazines, the world’s longest-running fashion series FASHION TELEVISION extends its iconic brand this November with the launch of a semi-annual magazine. Featuring fashion royalty Grace Kelly on the cover, the premiere 140-page winter edition of Fashion Television Magazine offers readers a unique video/print hybrid – a multimedia experience with a chance to see each print story come to life with a companion video available Nov. 2 on fashiontelevision.com. Building on the success of last year’s remarkable 25th anniversary magazine, the premiere edition celebrates the legendary and enduring style of Grace Kelly and also includes a variety of articles reflecting some of FT’s most thought-provoking and visually-stimulating international stories from the world of fashion, photography and design.
Produced by FASHION TELEVISION with Editorial Director Jay Levine and Editor-At-Large Jeanne Beker, and in partnership with Geoffrey Dawe & Co and Mamone & Partners, 1,000 copies of FT Magazine will be available beginning Nov. 2 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox during the private opening night reception for the “Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess” exhibition. FT Magazine will also be distributed Nov. 6 to select home subscribers of the Toronto Star and to targeted neighbourhoods in Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. The magazine hits newsstands across the country on Nov. 22.
“FASHION TELEVISION has always had its roots in the magazine world,” said Jay Levine, Supervising Producer of FASHION TELEVISION and Editorial Director of FT Magazine. “After the success of our 25th anniversary issue, we’ve been compelled to enter this market by finding a unique opportunity to connect print and video together in an interesting and engaging way. With a goal to deliver audiences the sexy style, glamour and classic taste that FT embodies, we couldn’t think of a more fitting time or better fashion icon to feature on our premiere cover than Grace Kelly.”
Inspired by her transcendent style, FASHION TELEVISION capitalized on the timing and its lead broadcast sponsorship of “Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess” – an exclusive North American exhibition launching Nov. 4 at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox – to celebrate Kelly on the cover. Juxtaposed against archival Hollywood shots of Kelly using integrated TV and still photography, the magazine features a glamorous 12-page fashion pictorial shot by photographer David Drebin. Inspired by Kelly’s renowned and enduring style, the pictorial captures the essence of her fashion evolution from iconic movie star to beloved princess.
The magazine also digs deep into some of FASHION TELEVISION’s most intriguing stories including the severe pressures of the fashion business that have lead to the tragic demise of John Galliano, the late Alexander McQueen and others, the recent trend of rock star offspring like Jagger, Richards and Lennox invading the modelling world, and the fascinating story of Vivian Maier, a Chicago nanny-turned-street style photographer whose photos discovered after her death have become a potential gold mine.
In episodes airing Sunday, Oct. 30 and Sunday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. ET on CTV and 6 p.m. ET on FashionTelevisionChannel, FASHION TELEVISION explores what’s behind cover girl Grace Kelly’s enduring style with exclusive comments from designers Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Kors along with Hollywood’s Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. Culminating in an in-depth feature story airing Sunday, Nov. 13, FT also covers the opening reception of “Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess,” along with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with TIFF Bell Lightbox Creative Director and Exhibition Curator Noah Cowan. The feature story also airs on Saturday, November 12 at 9 p.m. ET on E! (visit ctv.ca, eonline.ca and fashiontelevision.com to confirm local broadcast times). In partnership with TIFF, FT is the lead broadcast sponsor of “Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess,” running from Nov. 4 to Jan. 22, 2012. The exhibition features rarely-displayed items and artifacts ranging from her days as a Hollywood star to a princess of one of Europe’s oldest royal families. TIFF Bell Lightbox is the only venue in North America to host elements from the Grimaldi Forum’s exhibit in Monaco and the Victoria and Albert Museum’s exhibit in London, UK, and to complement the exhibition with dedicated film programmes.
