In a career now in its third decade, Sony BMG recording artist Cyndi Lauper has always stood out from the crowd. No one dressed, performed or sang like her when she came onto the music scene more than twenty years ago - and with the release of her latest album The Body Acoustic, Lauper proves the same is true today.

“Cyndi Lauper is an artist who has continually redefined herself over her more than twenty years in the music industry,” said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. “She is a great example to our competitors of how longevity can be achieved in a tough business.”

“Although identified with the 1980s by some of her most popular hits, Cyndi Lauper has made an impact in every generation since,” said Executive Producer John Brunton. “As they said in the 80s, its going to be a bitchin’ show.”

Cyndi Lauper exploded onto the scene in 1984, winning a Grammy for Best New Artist and selling nine million copies of She's So Unusual. That album defined her in vivid, distinctive ways, but where most overnight sensations would have taken that as their cue to begin repeating themselves, Cyndi made it her habit to chart new directions. From her follow-up, True Colors - from which came it’s No. 1 title track and another Grammy nomination for the artist - through her more recent project, At Last (in 2003), Lauper took numerous directions as a writer and interpreter of songs.

As with most of her repertoire, Lauper wrote much of the music from her latest album The Body Acoustic using the folk instrument, the dulcimer. It is in this album – featuring collaborations with artists such as Sarah McLachlan and Ani DiFranco - that Lauper decided to let the instrument come alive in her music.
