– A record average audience of 572,000 viewers tune into TSN for “The Great American Race” –

Toronto, ON (February 17, 2010) – Sunday’s running of the 52nd DAYTONA 500 was the most-watched edition of “The Great American Race” in TSN history. Preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that an average audience of 572,000 viewers tuned in to watch Jamie McMurray hold off Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take the checkered flag at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday night.

On a competitive day for sports broadcasting on Sunday, Feb. 14 the DAYTONA 500 on TSN drew the record audience despite going up against Olympic Games coverage.

The record 572,000 viewers includes nearly two and a half hours of delays due to track repairs. The average audience increases to an impressive 668,000 viewers for the race when not including the nearly 2.5 hours of delays in actual race coverage.

“The DAYTONA 500 is NASCAR’s most popular race and Canadian fans proved that once again on Sunday,” said Randy Paul, Managing Director of TSN Events and NASCAR Canada. “The record audience for this year’s DAYTONA 500 on TSN further emphasizes the overwhelming enthusiasm and passion for NASCAR from auto racing fans across Canada.”

In addition to its exclusive broadcast coverage of the Daytona 500 and all NASCAR races, TSN also operates NASCAR Canada – managing all sponsorships and licensing opportunities in Canada.

TSN and TSN2’s broadcast schedules combine to include every race on both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide series schedules in 2010.
